PlayStation’s first major showcase of 2026 delivered over 80 minutes of reveals including surprise shadow drops and franchise revivals
Sony held its first State of Play presentation of 2026 on February 10, running for 85 minutes and packing in reveals spanning first-party PlayStation Studios titles, major third-party partnerships, and surprise announcements. The showcase focused heavily on games releasing throughout 2026 while confirming several projects still in early development.
God of War dominates with dual announcements
Santa Monica Studio closed the presentation with two major God of War reveals timed to coincide with the franchise’s approaching 20th anniversary in March 2026. The studio confirmed a full God of War Trilogy Remake is currently in early development for PlayStation 5, rebuilding the original Greek-era games from the ground up with modern visuals and updated mechanics.
The announcement featured TC Carson, the original voice actor for Kratos in the Greek trilogy, confirming his involvement in the remake project. Santa Monica Studio emphasized the project remains in very early stages with no additional details or release window provided beyond an acknowledgment that updates won’t arrive for quite some time.
In an unexpected move Sony shadow-dropped God of War: Sons of Sparta immediately following the announcement making it available for download the same day. Developed by Mega Cat Studios in partnership with Santa Monica Studio this 2D side-scrolling action platformer serves as a prequel exploring Kratos before his time as a god or Spartan commander.
Sons of Sparta follows a young Kratos and his brother Deimos in a Metroidvania-style adventure. The game represents a significant departure from the franchise’s typical third-person action format while maintaining the brutal combat the series is known for. TC Carson returns to voice Kratos in this prequel as well.
Metal Gear Solid returns with Vol. 2 collection
Konami announced Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 2 arriving August 27, 2026. The collection includes Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots and Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker bringing these titles to modern platforms for the first time in years. MGS4 in particular has been trapped on PlayStation 3 since its 2008 release making this announcement significant for preservation and accessibility.
The original Master Collection Vol. 1 will receive visual updates and improvements beginning immediately according to Konami’s presentation. This suggests the publisher is committed to supporting the initiative beyond simply porting older titles.
Konami maintained a strong presence throughout the showcase also revealing Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse a new entry in the long-dormant franchise and providing updates on Silent Hill: Townfall confirming a 2026 release window for that horror title.
John Wick enters gaming with Saber Interactive
One of the presentation’s surprise reveals was an untitled John Wick game developed by Saber Interactive in collaboration with franchise director Chad Stahelski. The trailer confirmed Keanu Reeves will provide both voice and likeness for the project bringing authenticity to the adaptation.
The brief gameplay footage showcased what Saber calls “Gun-Fu” gameplay blending gunplay with hand-to-hand combat in a style reminiscent of Sifu and Max Payne. The trailer emphasized brutal cinematic takedowns and neo-noir environments matching the aesthetic established by the film series.
No release date was provided though the inclusion in a 2026-focused showcase suggests the title may arrive within that timeframe or shortly after. Saber Interactive previously developed World War Z and the upcoming Warhammer 40K: Space Marine 2 demonstrating experience with action-focused titles.
Kena returns with Scars of Kosmora
Ember Lab officially announced Kena: Scars of Kosmora the sequel to 2021’s Bridge of Spirits. The story-driven action-adventure follows Kena as an accomplished Spirit Guide traveling to the mysterious island of Kosmora to seek a cure for an affliction and reconnect with someone from her past.
The game features an evolved combat system building on the original’s foundation while introducing new Spirit Guiding mechanics tied to Kosmora’s forgotten traditions. The Rot companions return with expanded abilities and interactions. Ember Lab confirmed a 2026 release window for PlayStation 5 and PC.
Bridge of Spirits earned praise for its visually stunning environments and tight action gameplay despite coming from a small independent studio. The sequel appears to maintain that visual fidelity while expanding the scope and complexity of its systems.
